Agency, Distribution & Franchising

These areas of law all cover contracts governing the marketing of items of merchandise.
Under agency law, one party, the principal, authorises the other to act as agent and represent their legal interests and to perform acts that will bind the principal.

Distribution agreements allow parties to agree terms for manufacturers to authorise other companies or individuals to distribute and sell the manufacturer’s branded items.

Franchises allow parties to agree terms where a franchisor grants a franchisee trademarks and licences, to carry on a permitted method of doing business using the franchisor’s brand in return for a royalty fee.
